DNA Galleries: Terrific Twos!

They call it the terrible two’s I’ve heard. Luckily being a plaza mom, having a two year old business brings so much to anticipate over the next year without the fear of tantrums and selfish fits. When I came to the Plaza District a little over two and a half years ago, Dylan and Amanda Bradway had just moved into their space. Then, they were just living there, making plans and hosting an occasional art show. Back then, they were just being themselves– immersed in donating time and energy in a multitude of local art projects and events. Recently, Amanda told me the story of how they came about the space in the district. Just after noticing a classified ad for space, they trekked over to NW 16th and stumbled up a blank canvas of buildings, and immediately saw a vision for a hub of local art. Since then, they’ve not only opened a fantastic retail store and gallery, they’ve provided emerging artists amazing opportunities and paved the way to launching the Plaza District as a viable place for local art and creativity. Their commitment to the Plaza District and the local art community is amazing, and unfortunately they aren’t recognized enough for all they have brought to OKC.

This spring, we honored Dylan and Amanda for their “pioneering” efforts with the Young Urban Leader award. This award is not enough to recognize their value to the district. As a non-profit, we can’t afford to honor these two like we would love to, so we could use your help. This Friday, DNA will celebrate their 2 Year Anniversary with the Custom Longboard Deck show. This year they have 30 different local artists participating and sponsorships from Flip’d skate shop in Edmond, Arbor & Sector 9.

So, please join us and help us show DNA how much they’ve brought to the art community, and especially to the Plaza District. If it weren’t for these two, your Plaza District would not be like it is today. They’ve not only made the pioneering decision to locate here, but they’ve been involved in countless hours of planning with us to make Plaza District events and day to day goodness happen here. It hasn’t always been pretty, and they’ve stuck through alot over the last two years. And this year holds much to look forward to, as they’ve purchased and remodeled a home just around the corner from the district, they’ll have more space and more goodness to come.

As plaza mom, I’m encouraged everyday from their wholesome, community mindset. We’re all in this together, and we may as well be as tight as possible as long as we’re all on this journey. They are a true example of why I have the best job ever.

Plaza love! See you all Friday!

Wanna know something funny?! The genius interwebs think this is actually a post about 2-year old kids, so the Google ads at the bottom today include “Potty training tips” and “Stop tantrums in 3 steps.”
I’m glad it’s actually about something FAR more exciting/interesting than screaming children! ๐Ÿ™‚
