Be sure not to miss this month’s Live on the Plaza to kick off a weekend of Plaza District celebration!  From 7 – 11 pm on October 8th, Oklahoma City’s Plaza District is hosting its monthly artwalk to exhibit a new collection of local aspiring artists, musicians, and creatives. This month’s LIVE on the Plaza is a pre-party for the expanse of local art and goodness to take place the following Saturday, October 9th for the Plaza DIstrict Festival from 12-10pm.

@1614 and Midwest Media & Marketing are pleased to host artist Nick Bayer. The ideas for his paintings are born out of nostalgia. He explores the relationships between images and text, how meaning is discovered through the combination of text and image with color, painted form and juxtaposition. DNA Galleries host works by  Mr. Haveldids and Nots, while Collected Thread hosts an open house.Coffy’s Café is hosting a CD release party for local musician Anna Kinder, who just released her debut EP, “The Process.” Open Mic to follow at 8 p.m. Stop in for gluten-free treats or tasty drinks, and feel free to use the array of instruments provided in-store for the public to enjoy.

ReThread is working to provide new and gently used clothes to children in the neighborhoods surrounding the Plaza District through the event “Cold is Hell”. From 6-8pm during LIVE stop by Convergence OKC and bring a gently used coat or $10 and enjoy Cafe Evoke, Iguana Grill while learning about the neighborhood and iniative!

Be sure to stop by Bad Granny’s Bazaar to see the work of local artist Shelley States, as well as costume shopping for Halloween!

The Velvet Monkey will be displaying work by Dejavoodu. Visitors will be free to roam the array of vintage clothing, magazines, and various cool accessories located in the back as well. At Juju Gallery, come preview select Plaza Festival merchandise!

Plaza District Festival is quickly growing into one of OKC’s most endearing annual art events, drawing a large audience of local art lovers. In celebration of the comeback of the revitalized Plaza District, the festival highlights a wide array of local performing artists, visual artists, musicians and provides interactive art education for the community. The festival is open to the public drawing audiences from across Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas, and offers the surrounding neighborhoods an arts festival right in the heart of their community. A grand stage set in the center of the Plaza District provides performing artists a space to showcase their talent, while Plaza District businesses open to showcase featured artists, designers and activities.
In the evening, visitors kick back and enjoy bands from the Oklahoma City music scene with the Annual Plaza District Music Fest! We hope you can join us this year in celebrating the comeback of the Plaza District at the 2010 Plaza District Festival!
