Helpa Plaza Out!
OK, so here is how it works. The Plaza District is basically run by the Plaza District Association. The association is made up of 1 staff person (me, Plaza mom!) and a board of Directors. Basically, our lovely little district has grown, our events are getting bigger, our needs are growing, and that all means….we need help!
I know so many of you love what is happening here, so if you can lend your brain and your time to make more happen–we can keep growing, cool things will happen for OKC, and I won’t spontaneously combust from exhaustion! Everyone wins! Check the details below, and email me at kristen@plazadistrict.org if you can help us out! Please let me know what you’d be interested in helping out with, or I’d be happy to give you more info if you’re not sure!
Plant the Plaza: Need a volunteer(s) to help raise $ for plants (or get plants donated), identify projects that need to be done during the work day (graffiti removal, trash, etc), organize volunteers, and gather materials. A date has not been set.
LIVE on the Plaza: need volunteer(s) to organize Plaza Egg hunt for April LIVE. Gather supplies, stuff eggs with candy & store discounts, run the egg hunt on the day of LIVE, get flyer to schools. Also need volunteers to watch the office/gallery during LIVE events each month.
Plaza District Festival: need volunteer(s) to start preparations for festival while I am busy with our Urban Pioneer Awards. Tasks include: notifying artists and vendors of date, making call to volunteers for committees, promoting save the date, updating website with save the date, starting permit processes, reservations & rentals, etc…basically general event planning
Christmas: We are working to get outdoor electricity for holiday lighting and events. Need help fundraising, or coming up with fundraising ideas for this $10,000 project.
Membership: Need help brainstorming ideas for membership: gaining new members, cultivating members, keeping up with signups, membership renewal notices
I could also use general/admin office help on a regular basis!
We Welcome–SAINTS to the Plaza District!
Introducing Saints– a bar and restaurant opening Spring 2011. Saints is a brand new, Oklahoma City owned and operated restaurant concept coming to the Plaza District, on NW 16th between Classen and Penn.
Owner Patrick Ireland brings Saints to the Plaza District in his entrepreneurial debut, bringing with it him an impressive menu and plenty of drink options that will satisfy even the most discerning of tastes. Saints will offer a full Irish inspired menu focusing on a healthy approach to the traditionally heavy Irish meal. Lunch will feature an array of appetizers, unique sandwiches, soups, and salads, while dinner options will include dishes such as fish & Chips (baked fish and roasted potatoes), home-style baked casseroles and more, all sure to satisfy the appetite.
Saints will also boast a fresh take on traditional cocktails, and host 8 draft beers on tap, and bottle and can options including the local COOP Ale beers. As with the food menu, traditional cocktails with are met with a modern twist. High-end whiskeys, scotch and bourbons will be featured among a variety of traditional cocktail options.
To compliment the Plaza District burgeoning creativity, Saints will host local musicians, performances and even a disk jukebox featuring local bands. Pub games include proper darts while bartender trivia nights and a whiskey of the month club events will be of occasion.
The Plaza District is extremely thrilled Saints will call the Plaza District home, and we are eager to share this sure to be neighborhood favorite with Oklahoma City. Tonight, Saints will be open to the public to preview the remodel and to meet the owner and staff!
The void of food and drink options in the district is now being filled, and we will have yet another announcement of a new concept coming to the Plaza District this Spring as well!
