Best of OKC-Such Great Heights

We were so thrilled to have 16 Plaza District nominations for The Gazette’s Best of OKC. Truly, to have so many new businesses in the Top 5 was incredibly inspiring to all we have accomplished. Thank you so much for supporting us in that. We’ve heard alot of frustration around some of the Best of OKC results that were released this morning, and in all honesty, we were kind of bummed more great Plaza District businesses didn’t get some of the gold ourselves (but super happy for Lyric Theatre and Velvet Monkey Salon!). The Plaza District, among many other districts and local businesses pour so much energy into what we do, it’s hard to believe sometimes that people don’t see it. That people don’t realize how much better our city has become, and is becoming each day. That’s not to say many of the businesses voted were undeserving, because many were. I’m just speaking to those who wished to see more of their favorites listed.
It’s not necessarily about the winning, but more a concern our own city isn’t getting what we are all doing. So, we can continue to gripe about it, or we can do something about it. We are choosing to do something about it, and we need your help. The Plaza District Association and businesses are all here as young entrepenuers. We’ve got limited budgets to plaster billboards and large glossy ads across the city. We feel the love through social media and the folks who are willingly plugged into the downtown community, but we can only reach that audience who wants to be reached. So, what can you do?
Continue to support us and all of your favorite local businesses. We couldn’t have made it this far without you, and we’ll always need you.
Talk us up! Don’t assume everyone knows about us. Tell your friends, your co-workers–invite new people to LIVE on the Plaza. What business would you be heartbroken if closed? Talk to someone new about that business.
The thing is, it’s not just about word of mouth. These businesses aren’t people just out to make a buck. They are here to make this city a better place for you to live. And they’re doing a great job. The last two years have exploded, so help us take us to such great heights! This goes for all of your favorite locals businesses. It’s not about Plaza, Paseo, Midtown or 9th St, Stockyards or Western. We’ll all rise together, but we need your help!
Love Local! Love 16th (and all!)

Put a little love down south to Old Town, Moore too. We love the revitalization in the city and support all the districts you mentioned but don’t forget the districts on the far borders of the city and in the suburbs that are fighting the big box giants and the rise of strip mall after strip mall. Live and love local everything! Even in Moore and Norman etc…

Of course Sean, thanks for pointing that out! I was just being descriptive–so many more areas to name. It’s so true. Support local everywhere!
